Melbourne have re-signed five of it's players in anticipation of Wednesday's list lodgement.

Jay Lockhart, Mitch Brown, Toby Bedford, James Jordon and Kade Chandler have all recommitted to the club.

Lockhart has been elevated to the senior list with a one-year extension, whilst Brown and Chandler will remain on rookie deals.

The supplementary selection period (SSP) has proven fruitful for the Demons, as they picked up both Lockhart and Brown in the 2019 period.

Lockhart in particular has been a strong pickup for Melbourne, featuring 10 times in 2020, and 22 times over his career.

Jordon had a good pre-season in 2020, however a finger injury left him unavailable for selection. He'd be hoping to build upon his form in practice matches to elevate him to the next level in 2021.

General Manager of Football Facilities and Administration Josh Mahoney said to Melbourne Media he was pleased with the re-signing of key fringe players.

“We are pleased that these players will get an opportunity to continue their careers at Melbourne as we finalise our list prior to the Draft."

“Jay has shown good improvement each year and deserves to be upgraded to the senior list.

“Kade, Toby and James were impacted by the lack of VFL games this season, but all showed great signs of development and will be pushing hard for senior games next season.

“Mitch Brown played the role we needed him to play this season and showed that he can still perform at AFL level.”

Brown, 30, was solid for the club last year, and will be looking to build on his ability for 2021 and cement a spot in the team.
