The AFL has announced confirmed the 2022 awards night will occur on Wednesday, August 24th, presented at Centerpiece in Melbourne.
Michael Neill, General Manager of Fox Footy, embraced the anticipation that will build for the awards in the coming weeks stating: "This year's AFL Awards will be the biggest and most ambitious yet."
The night includes announcing the All-Australian team, NAB AFL Rising Star, Coleman Medallist, AFL Players' Association (AFLPA) awards and AFL Coaches Association (AFLCA) awards.
The All-Australian team announcement always creates controversy as it brings the conversations around who missed out on selection. Can previously snubbed players crack into the team this year?
Last year's award winners included Luke Jackson, Harry McKay, Marcus Bontempelli and Clayton Oliver.
Collingwood's Nick Daicos is the projected run-away winner for this year's NAB AFL Rising Star Award. Even with the solid and consistent performances of Hawthorn's Jai Newcombe and Geelong's Sam De Koning.
Charlie Curnow is impressive for Carlton this season after battling knee injuries. However, the Coleman Medal winner is still unclear, as Geelong's power forward duo Jeremy Cameron and Tom Hawkins are closing the gap.
The AFLPA MVPย remains up for grabs. Bontempelli's post-bye form has given him a chance to go back-to-back.
Gold Coast's Touk Miller is the main threat to Oliver's chance of going back-to-back in the Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year.
Paul Marsh, CEO of the AFLPA, commented on the value of the night.
"We're excited to celebrate the contribution of the players after a thrilling 2022 season, and honour the Most Valuable player, as chosen by their peers, among a host of other industry awards at an event that will bring together the game's very best," he said.
This excitement will add to the pre-finals bye and the AFLW season seven start. The stage is set for a monstrous Round 1, where 18 teams compete for the first time.
The AFL Awards night will broadcast live on Fox Footyย from 7:00pm AEST.
