Collingwood and Brisbane will meet in the AFL Grand Final on Saturday to decide the 2023 premiership.

The Lions cemented their spot in their first season-decider in 19 years, with their upcoming clash against Collingwood to come 20 years since the two clubs last met in the last game of the season.

Brisbane's 16-point win over Carlton on Saturday saw them equal the Magpies' perfect September run this off-season to both head into the grand final in fine form.

Collingwood narrowly edged past GWS on Friday through a one-point win at the MCG to return to the big stage for the first time since 2018.

The two clubs were the top finishing sides on the AFL ladder in 2023, with Collingwood taking out the minor premiership with a four-point buffer over the Lions with 18 wins for the season.

Saturday's meeting at the MCG will be Collingwood's 17th at the venue this year, while the Lions will head to Melbourne for their third at the ground for 2023.

The Lions lost to Hawthorn and Melbourne in those two matches, while Collingwood won 13 of their games at the MCG this year.

In head-to-head matches this year, the Lions defeated Collingwood on both occasions, recording a 33-point win at home in Round 4 before knocking off the Magpies by four goals at Marvel Stadium in Round 23.

For selection, Collingwood will lose Dan McStay to a knee injury sustained in the win over the Giants but could welcome back Taylor Adams from a hamstring injury.

The Lions could have Jack Payne back from an ankle issue, while his replacement in Darcy Gardiner stood tall against the Blues in just his third game of the year this weekend.

Star midfielder Lachie Neale managed to shake off a shoulder issue to play out the win over Carlton.

Collingwood's last premiership came in 2010 following a replay match against St Kilda, while the Lions' most recent flag was through their 2003 victory over the Magpies.
