The AFL Rookie Draft order for 2024 has been announced, with North Melbourne holding the coveted first pick after Richmond filled all its list spots during the national draft.
The Kangaroos are expected to use their selection to re-list key defender Toby Pink, as confirmed by AFL reporter Cal Twomey.
Scheduled to begin at 3:20 PM AEDT on Friday, the Rookie Draft follows the Pre-Season Draft at 3:00 PM.
Both events mark the final opportunity for AFL clubs to refine their playing lists ahead of the 2025 season. While many clubs will leave picks open to accommodate pre-season supplemental signings, others are poised to re-select delisted players under pre-arranged agreements.
Among those set to earn rookie lifelines are Hawthorn veteran Jack Gunston, Collingwood defender Oleg Markov, Adelaide's Chris Burgess and Harry Schoenberg, Brisbane's Darragh Joyce, and Sydney's Aaron Francis and Joel Hamling.
This growing trend of delisting and re-drafting allows clubs to maximise list flexibility while retaining valued players.
The Rookie Draft will also offer overlooked prospects from the national draft a final shot at securing their AFL dreams.
Brisbane is tipped to bolster its key forward stocks by selecting former Gold Coast Sun Sam Day in the Pre-Season Draft, following Joe Daniher's retirement.
Clubs like Essendon and Fremantle have already set their sights on players for the pre-season supplemental period, with former Lion Jaxon Prior and delisted Power midfielder Quinton Narkle expected to train with their respective clubs over summer.
