"Just a little bit."

Sydney coach John Longmire revealed that the stakes surrounding Logan McDonald's after-the-siren shot on goal forced him to waver from his normal goal-kicking routine, saying "he's still learning".

The Swans suffered their second loss of the 2024 season on Saturday against Fremantle and despite a slow start (once again), they had a chance to snatch victory.

However, with time to digest the contest, Longmire was in full defence of his key forward, suggesting that sitting at the young age of 22 has tremendous upside and potential to improve in moments like Saturday's.

"He's okay, it's just one of those things you learn about, just to stick to your routine. That's what you've got a routine for," Longmire said.

"I spoke to him after the game, there's no need to again because it's done, we move past it. He'll learn from that and be fine. It certainly wasn't the sole reason we lost the game, absolutely not."

The Swans still sit two games clear on top of the ladder and set up an interesting contest with St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

However, Longmire will be without club "stalwart" Harry Cunningham, who suffered a "small" hamstring strain during the loss to the Dockers, putting his 200th game on hold.

"It's unfortunate. He's been such a terrific player for this football club for a long time playing multiple roles," Longmire said.

"He's a real stalwart, really experienced. He's got great speed, great game knowledge. He'll get there."

Luke Parker is also nearing his exit from a six-game suspension in the VFL while captain Callum Mills is eyeing off a return to football next week.
