The AFL in association with the Victorian Government have announced the 2024 AFL Grand Final Parade will take place on the streets of Melbourne again, with players seated in the the traditional Toyota HiLux vehicles.
A new route has been confirmed for this year, allowing for a more fan-friendly path, going past public roads and allowing for more viewing opportunities.
AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said the parade is a huge part of Grand Final week and a must-watch for all footy fans.
โEach year we are looking to deliver a more fan and family friendly event and create better viewing opportunities for Parade goers who are enjoying the Grand Final week festivities and the public holiday in Victoria," said Dillon.
โThe new route through Melbourne Park Precinct, Birrarung Marr into the Footy Festival creates more viewing opportunities and allows more people to cheer on their favourite players as the Toyota HiLux vehicles go past.โ
Held on Friday 27 September, the day before the Grand Final it's expected a quarter of million people will be in Melbourne to watch the parade.
The parade will start in Melbourne Park Oval around 10:30 (AEST). The route will travel through Melbourne Park Precinct to Birrarung Marr, over the walk bridge and into the MCG Yarra Park Precinct, finishing at the AFL's Footy Festival.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos expressed that this year's parade is one of the best and will allow for greater access to players and coaches for fans.
โThe AFL Grand Final Parade will be bigger and better than ever in 2024, allowing unmatched access to players and coaches in the centre of Melbourne Park, Victoria's iconic sporting precinct," said Dimopoulos.
"I'm looking forward to seeing families come together in the heart of Melbourne to celebrate everything that makes the AFL Grand Final such an important event for our state.โ
