Geelong legend Gary Ablett Jr is set to spend more time in the forward line in 2019.

The 34-year-old is set for a new role inside the forward 50 after spending his first back at Geelong predominantly in the midfield.

According to Ablett, Geelong coach Chris Scott was the driving force behind the move forward.

“I sat down with Scotty in the off-season and we spoke about where I would be the best fit for the team and how I can help the team win games,” Ablett told Fox Sports.

“We decided that would be down forward.”

“It might be I am only getting half the possessions that I am used to getting, but I’m damaging with those possessions.

“It is going to be a new role for me but a role I’m really looking forward to.”

Ablett’s move forward may allow for more midfield time for the likes of Quinton Narkle, Brandan Parfitt and new recruit Luke Dahlhaus, as the Cats look to keep touch with the likes of Richmond, Collingwood and West Coast.
