Brisbane coach Chris Fagan has attributed the unfavourable recent record against Hawthorn to "effort and mindset".
Since 2020, the Lions have been on the wrong end of the result four times despite being at opposite ends of the ladder.
Having played away from the Gabba throughout the stretch, which will also include Sunday's matchup at Marvel Stadium, Fagan has declared his men will need to be on from the first bounce or face a similar outcome.
"Pretty clearly it just comes down to effort and mindset, I think," Fagan said on Thursday.
"That's not to disrespect Hawthorn, they played very well against us in those games, but we were nowhere near our best.
"We've got to make sure we're somewhere near our best, or at our best, on the weekend, and if we are, we give ourselves a good chance.
"If we're not, the same thing will happen."
In what has been an ironic twist of events, the span between 2018-2019 saw the Lions sing the song at the end of the game when they were just beginning to rise off the bottom of the ladder although Hawthorn was vying for finals.
"It's sort of crazy how that's worked out, but that's footy for you," Fagan said.
"You only have to look at the results on the weekend, and weird things happen."
The Lions have been on the mend after a poor start following last year's narrow grand-final loss.
MORE: Brisbane's 2024 injury list
Losing the opening three games, a Gather Round belting of North Melbourne kickstarted the 2024 campaign while an impressive three-week stretch - that yielded two wins and a draw - sees Brisbane sit 12th on the ladder.
And as the injury list looks as dour as ever, Fagan is all but set to recall dynamic forward Zac Bailey to the line-up after five weeks on the sideline with an ankle injury.
