North Melbourne's start to 2024 has the club rivalling some of the competition's worst records.

The Kangaroos were comfortably beaten by Essendon on Sunday, falling to 0-10.

With not much to hang their hat on, according to AFL statistician sirswampthing (X profile)the Roos are the only remaining team to have kicked a goal in every quarter this season, despite languishing on the bottom of the ladder.

It is the first time in history that the last-placed side has been left standing winless but still managed to slot six points in each quarter.

Surprisingly to footy fans, the statistic doesn't bode well for the side that averages 67.7 points a game, whilst conceding nearly 120.

Sitting with a percentage of 56.8, the Kangaroos have struggled to be competitive this year, with the lowest losing margin sitting at 26 points against Fremantle in Round 2.

North Melbourne's three victories in 2023 look farfetched this year, with the club looking for the light at the end of the tunnel.

The vastly improved West Coast outfit doesn't appear to be as a winnable task as it did last year while Fremantle and Gold Coast (wins from last year) have already been chalked up as losses.

Without a shock victory, Kangaroos fans might have to wait until Round 21 to face a Richmond side that has been ravaged by injury to sing the song after the final siren.

Since 1945 (post-war), only two teams went winless in their seasons: Hawthorn in 1950 and Fitzroy in 1964.

Expansion club GWS managed to avoid the disastrous record in 2013 with a solitary victory over Melbourne.
