The 2025 AFL season is fast approaching, and with the offseason winding down and preseason underway, anticipation is building for what promises to be an action-packed year of footy.

While the official fixture is yet to be released, we've gathered an estimated timeline for the major events and rounds based on previous seasons and early announcements. Here's what the AFL calendar could look like for 2025.

It is understood that there will be 23 Thursday-night clashes in 2025, starting with the first 16 weeks.

Of those first 16 weeks of the 2025 season, nine will feature Sunday evening clashes in a new initiative by the AFL.

The AFL will also get a first look into a double-header at Marvel Stadium during Round 11 (Sir Doug Nicholls Round).

Carlton will play Greater Western Sydney on the Saturday at 1.20 pm AEST before North Melbourne hosts Collingwood at the same venue at 7.35 pm AEST later that evening.

  1. Let me guess….
The wobbles will get 18 home games this year – so will a selected few other vic clubs.
Geelong will have fewer home games than any other club…. without choosing this.
A few vic clubs will enter any final with a home ground advantage – if they earned that or not.
The same clubs will get “stand alone blockbusters” that can be used to increase sponsorship value and gain members (or even only “fans”).

The umpiring will be substandard but the vfl will be “happy with it”.

I wonder if I’ll be “right”?
