Port Adelaide and Hawthorn father-son prospect Ky Burgoyne will make his senior SANFL debut on Thursday against the Adelaide Crows when he suits up for the Magpies.

Burgoyne, the son of four-time AFL premiership player Shaun, is a Next Generation Academy member at Alberton and plays for West Adelaide at the junior SANFL level.

Following approval from the SANFL, Port Adelaide and West Adelaide, the 17-year-old will play for the Magpies in this week's Showdown curtain-raiser.

NGA and father-son prospects are eligible to play in up to four games for Port Adelaide during their draft year.

Across six U18s games for the Bloods this year, the running defender has amassed an average of 19.0 disposals, 5.7 marks, 5.2 tackles and 3.2 rebound 50s per game.

Burgoyne is among a handful of father-son prospects for the Power this year, with cousin Rome Burgoyne - son of premiership Port Adelaide player Peter - also in the mix for this November's draft.

Also able to join Hawthorn as a father-son, with Shaun playing 250 games in the brown and gold after 157 matches with the Power, Burgoyne will come to a decision this year on his allegiances.

The Burgoyne name is one of the most famous at Port Adelaide, with Shaun and Peter playing a role in the club's first-ever AFL premiership, while grandfather Peter Burgoyne senior also played for the club.

Club great Greg Phillips is also the grandfather of Ky, with AFLW champion Erin Phillips his aunty.

Ky's cousin Jase Burgoyne is currently listed with the Power, while Jase's brother Trent was previously with the club.

Burgoyne won't be the only father-son prospect to take to Adelaide Oval on Thursday afternoon, with Crows prospect Tyler Welsh (son of Scott) to line up for his third SANFL game of 2024.

The SANFL game between Adelaide and Port Adelaide will commence at 3:50 pm local time in the lead-up to the AFL Showdown encounter later in the evening.
