The West Coast Eagles are reportedly planning a blockbuster draft trade, but it won't involve in-demand midfielder Harley Reid.

Instead, the Eagles are thought to be preparing a deal centred on leading Western Australian prospect Daniel Curtin.

The positionally versatile Curtin is said to be a key target for the Eagles, who are also expected to keep their No. 1 overall pick and select Victorian midfielder Harley Reid.

West Coast is preparing to offload its 2024 first-round pick to gain a second early first-rounder this year to select Curtin, according to News Corp journalists Sam Landsberger and Jay Clark on Friday afternoon via Code Sports.

Per the report, the Eagles are expected to complete the deal with the GWS Giants, who are currently sitting at No. 7 in the order, with Curtin slated to slip to GWS' spot in the order.

Such a move would ensure the 18-year-old Curtin, who played in Claremont's WAFL Colts premiership triumph, remains in his home state to begin his professional career.

Striking a deal to trade back into the first round isn't the bombshell draft exchange most were expecting from the Eagles, with the Lathlain club having fielded consistent rival offers for the first overall selection from the likes of North Melbourne, Melbourne, and Hawthorn.

At present, the Eagles hold picks 1, 23, 37, 58, and 73.

While Curtin projects as a premier key-position defensive prospect, the tantalising youngster can also play forward of the ball and through the midfield.
