Harley Reid, the number one prospect for the 2023 AFL National Draft, is set to play in the VFL again this season. Having already played two games at VFL level for Carlton, Reid is expected to play for Essendon's VFL side next week.
His versatility was on full display for the Blues as he played off half-back, showcasing his ability on the ball and was a standout amongst an experienced side.
Reid is no stranger to Essendon, having trained with them during the pre-season as a part of the AFL Academy program.
The 18-year-old midfielder has drawn comparisons to AFL greats such as Dustin Martin for his versatility as a midfielder, whilst having the ability to go forward has been heavily praised.
According to AFL.com.au, Reid is set to feature for the Bombers' VFL side next week when Essendon make the trip north to face Southport.
Whilst Reid may be the most talked about prospect this season, he isn't the first Victorian draft prospect to play at VFL level in 2023. Gippsland talent Zane Duursma and Dandenong's Cooper Simpson have played for the Casey Demons, exciting key forward Nate Caddy featured for Carlton's reserves and Harvey Johnston made his way into Collingwood's VFL side last weekend.
Reid will play for the Bendigo Pioneers this weekend prior to an appearance for the Dons' as he makes his return from a strong National Championships campaign with Vic Country, where he won his side's MVP award.
