Both Port Adelaide and Adelaide have named father-son AFL Draft prospects to play in their SANFL sides this weekend, with the former to have a famous name debut at the level.

The Magpies have selected 17-year-old Rome Burgoyne, the son of Power premiership player Peter, for Sunday's clash with North Adelaide.

Burgoyne is eligible as a father-son selection for the Power in 2024 and is also the brother of current AFL-listed wingman Jase Burgoyne, who joined the club in 2021.

Following approval from his U18s club, Woodville-West Torrens, and the SANFL, the teenager has been given permission to play for Port Adelaide, where he is a Next Generation Academy member.

His SANFL debut comes after a National Championships carnival where Burgoyne played one game for South Australia, with the half-back collecting 15 disposals and over 240 metres gained in a loss last week to Vic Metro.

Burgoyne joins cousin Ky - another father-son prospect for the Power this year - in stepping up to the senior SANFL level during his draft campaign, with the son of Port Adelaide and Hawthorn great Shaun representing the Magpies in Round 5 before doubling his tally the week after against North Adelaide.

Rome has been a key player for Woodville-West Torrens' U18s side this year, averaging 22.3 disposals, 3.4 marks and 5.6 rebound 50s from his seven games in 2024.

He'll suit up for the Power's reserves at Prospect Oval on Sunday as one of six inclusions for the Magpies, who have named recent AFL debutant Will Lorenz, senior-listed trio Kyle Marshall, Willie Rioli and Dylan Williams, as well as Lachlan Pascoe.

Burgoyne's new opportunity at the state league level comes as Adelaide welcomes the return of their own father-son prospect, Tyler Welsh, for their SANFL clash against Central District.

Welsh, who has already played three games for the Crows' reserves this year, returns to the side after a strong National Championships despite South Australia's one-win campaign.

The key forward kicked eight goals across his four matches for the Croweaters - including four against Vic Metro and three against the Allies in a come-from-behind win.

Still chasing his first goal for Adelaide's SANFL side, Welsh comes into the Crows' side this week alongside Steve Burton, Sam Daniele, Dylan Whimpress, Darcy Clifford and Jayden Davis.

The Crows head to X Convenience Oval on Sunday to face the third-placed Bulldogs at 1:40pm local time.
