A mercurial mid-sized forward who does his best work in the front half.

A mercurial mid-sized forward, Bendigo Pioneers product Archer Day-Wicks established himself as a talent to watch throughout his draft year.

Despite missing multiple games early in the year with a corked quad, Day-Wicks was able to put his best foot forward for the Pioneers, also earning a re-selection in the Vic Country side for the National Championships.

Day-Wicks best showcased his marking prowess at the National Championships. He had a great day out against Western Australia in Claremont, taking seven grabs among his 14 touches of the ball.

The classy left-footer could also be positioned across multiple areas of the ground, with his size, power and endurance suiting specific roles in the midfield and across half-back.

However, Day-Wicks does his best work in the front half, oozing a level of confidence reminiscent of Sydney superstar Isaac Heeney, a player who is likened to him.

He averaged 17 disposals and kicked 15 goals in 14 matches for Bendigo and was quieter in his three outings during the U18s carnival.

Expected to go later in the draft due to the nature of the crop, Day-Wicks could be a bargain late in the second round or early in the third.

Western Bulldogs, St Kilda and Geelong pose as potential landing spots for the versatile youngster, while Port Adelaide could vest interest in him.

However, if he slips further into the third round, Collingwood (Picks 52 and 55) could be a club of interest.

Expert comments

"Left-footed medium forward who is strong overhead for his size and capable of kicking special goals. Had an injury-interrupted start to the year but showed some of his qualities in three matches for Victoria Country, averaging 10.3 disposals and 1.3 goals per game during the National Championships." - Kevin Sheehan.
