Western Australia prospect Reuben Ginbey has shot into top-10 calculations this year after an impressive 2022 season.
Playing predominately as a midfielder for WA at the National Championships, Ginbey started the season as a general defender, excelling in both roles.
His versatility is considered one of his greatest strengths, with his size and strength attractive to recruiters.
These traits were further cemented within his repertoire after an impressive performance at the National Draft Combine, showcasing his athleticism by finishing equal fourth in the vertical jump and in the top 10 of the running vertical jump test.
He also managed to finish in the top five for the 2km time trial and in the top 10 in the 20m sprint, impressive feats given his bulky frame.
Ginbey is in the mould of the modern AFL player, with his physical attributes and competitive attitude being attractive to clubs looking for a long-term prospect.
Former Eagles defender Brad Sheppard believes that the Eagles' slide from pick 2 to pick 8 in the biggest deal of this year's trade period was motivated by a desire to pick up Ginbey, whom they rate highly.
"He has leadership qualities all over him and he's going to be a future 200-gamer," he said on SEN WA's The Run Home.
"He's someone you can build a club around."
Ginbey is sure to have several suitors outside of the Eagles, including a number of clubs that hold selections aheaf of their opening selection at Pick 8.
