Richmond are continuing to field calls from rival clubs over potential draft night trades, with the Tigers to again open proceedings on Thursday evening to kickstart the second round of the draft.

The Tigers took six players in the opening 23 picks during the first round of the count on Wednesday, with Vic Country bull Sam Lalor landing at Punt Road as the dux of his draft class at Pick 1.

Fellow Victorians Josh Smillie (Pick 7), Taj Hotton (Pick 12), Jonty Faull (Pick 14), Luke Trainor (Pick 21) and Harry Armstrong (Pick 23) were also added to Adem Yze's list.

Richmond's seventh first-round selection - Pick 27 - was traded to North Melbourne to end the night, with the Tigers also parting with their future second-round pick in a deal that secured them the Roos' opening selection for 2025.

Speaking after the first round, a satisfied Richmond talent manager, Blair Hartley, said the club had fielded calls for their final three picks for much of the night.

They decided to move for Trainor and Armstrong before shaking hands with the Kangaroos, fulfilling their goal of strengthening next year's package.

"Part of our discussion, even leading into the draft. was that we really rated it, but if we could maximise our position for next year as well, and it worked for us, we'd look at it," Hartley said.

"We were in discussions, the phones were running pretty hot leading from our fifth pick to the to the seventh pick.

"We were on the phone back and forth with North Melbourne, quite a bit, and a number of other clubs, and it got to the point where we felt like it was something that would work for us."

The Tigers will be back on the clock for the opening selection of night two, with Hartley already receiving the advances of other clubs keen to move to the front of the queue and acquire an overlooked teenager.

Several initial top 15 chances have now slid to the Pick 30 mark, with this year's deep draft having a handful of top-rated names still left off the board.

Hartley said the Tigers will view all avenues in negotiations for Pick 28, whether that be adding to their 2025 hand again or trading back from their current position.

"We'll assess everything. There's options in trading back as well," he added.

"There's still some pretty handy players on the board. So we're excited to see how the next 24 hours plays out.

"It's a non-stop business this one. I'd love to go and have a beer but I think the phones are still running pretty hot. We've already had a couple of calls."

Night two of the 2024 AFL Draft will commence at approximately 7:00pm (AEDT), with upwards of 40 more selections expected to be made.
