Carlton recruit and former Gold Coast player Elijah Hollands has been suspended for two matches by the AFL after being found guilty of "conduct unbecoming".
Hollands breached the AFL's illicit drugs policy after being found in possession of an illicit substance, with the 21-year-old pleading guilty to possession of cocaine after being served a notice to appear in court last month.
The young midfielder has since undertaken and completed a drug diversion course and has been required to serve a two-month good behaviour bond.
The league confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Hollands has been suspended for the opening two matches of next season, with the Blues recruit to miss matches against Brisbane and Richmond, and won't be available to play in VFL matches during that period either.
Hollands has also been issued with a suspended $5,000 fine.
"The AFL confirms Carlton player Elijah Hollands has been found guilty of conduct unbecoming in breach of the AFL Rules and has been suspended for two AFL matches," a league statement read.
"Hollands will not be available to play in Carlton's โOpening Round' match vs Brisbane Lions or in their Round 1 match vs Richmond next season.ย ย He will also not be able to play in any VFL matches (including practice matches) on those weekends.
"Hollands' conduct constitutes an Adverse Finding under the AFL's Illicit Drugs Policy additionally resulting in the imposition of a $5,000 (suspended) fine on him.
"Hollands' conduct was previously investigated by Queensland Police resulting in him being charged and sanctioned with a 2-month good behaviour bond and ordered to complete a drug diversion course, which Hollands has since completed.
"The AFL now considers this matter finalised."
Carlton confirmed the club was aware of the police charges against Hollands prior to their acquisition of the former Suns player through last month's trade period.
Hollands is expected to join his new Carlton teammates at training later this month.
