Former Geelong and Gold Coast superstar Gary Ablett will play for Northern Territory Football Club side Palmerston in his first game in nearly two years.

The two-time Brownlow Medallist, eight-time All-Australian and two-time premiership player will lineup against St Mary's on November 18, as reported by NT News.

This is the second major coup signing for the club, with former Carlton and Adelaide Champion Eddie Betts applying his craft back in July.

The Magpies expressed their delight to have the AFL great join their club in a one-game stint .

"To have Gary and family here as part of the football community is a massive coup for the club, and so exciting for our NTFL competition," a club statement reads.

"We also want to thank our local product and Magpies junior, Matthew Stokes for linking Gary and family with our football club."

Ablett called time on his stellar AFL career in 2020 after 357 games, being a Geelong Hall of Famer and Life Member, five-time Leigh Matthews Trophy Winner and three-time AFLCA Champion Player of the Year.

The club has seen former AFL players Aaron Davey, Alwyn Davey, Trent Hentschel and Matthew Stokes pull on the black and white jumper.
