AFL match review officer Michael Christian will issue an apology for arguing with a local football umpire at a women's match on Sunday.

Christian was attending the women's football match between Old Brighton and Old Scotch to watch his daughter play, when he noticed that umpire Adrian Fisher was missing a lot of sling tackle calls.

He appeared on 3AW to explain his side of the story and reveals that he is willing to apologise.

“I tried to call Adrian to apologise,” Christian told 3AW.

“I spoke to the AFL today, to [football operations] Steve Hocking, to confirm this had occurred."

“Steve clearly outlined the AFL’s position to me, that this should not have happened by any person, particularly not someone in a senior official role in the game.”

While Christian admits his mistake and is willing to apologise, Fisher also made an appearance on 3AW Radio to provide further details on the half-time exchange.

“He said I’m independent, you’re missing sling tackles," Fisher explained to 3AW.

“I said ‘well that’s your opinion’.

“He said ‘you’re missing sling tackles and paying them as holding’.

“I said ‘that’s your opinion.’ Then he walked off and said ‘I’m right’.

“We didn’t get heated or anything, we just exchanged opposite views ... I don't think it was appropriate what he did."
