Carlton defender Jordan Boyd has caught the eye of the Match Review Officer (MRO) for his lewd front-on bump on Richmond forward Rhyan Mansell, receiving a one-match suspension.

During the final term, Boyd can be seen making contact with Mansell's head which was deemed by the MRO as "forceful front-on contact" and graded as "careless conduct, medium impact and high contact".

The Tiger small was awarded the free-kick immediately while the contest prompted a shocked response from the Channel 7 commentary.

The Blues have confirmed they will head to the Tribunal on Tuesday to challenge the one-match suspension.

If the club fails to overturn the charge, Boyd will miss Saturday's clash with GWS at Engie Stadium.

Earlier in the same game, Boyd's teammate Nic Newman and Richmond midfielder Liam Baker were engaging in a melee in the third term, which was cited by the MRO.

Both players copped fines of $1,875, with an early guilty plea reducing the fine to $1,250.
