Hawthorn will be without versatile defender Jack Scrimshaw for next week's clash with Port Adelaide after copping a one-match ban for a dangerous tackle on Saint Liam Stocker.

The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter of Hawthorn's thrilling five-point win on Saturday at UTAS Stadium, when the St Kilda defender was tackled and dumped into the ground after the ball had spilled out.

Stocker's head hit the ground and a dangerous tackle was paid by the umpire. Fortunately the Saint played out the remainder of the game and has avoided concussion.

The tackle was deemed to make high contact with medium impact and careless conduct, resulting in a one-week suspension and depleting Hawthorn's defensive stocks for their trip to Adelaide Oval.

The Hawks are looking to continue their run of form, winning three of their past four matches, separating themselves from the bottom four and fighting to scrape out of the bottom four.

The lead up to their Round 15 bye presents a stretch of winnable matches over the next fve weeks - playing Brisbane at Marvel before Adelaide and Richmond at the MCG during the stretch.

Coach Sam Mitchell will be forced to experiment with personnel down back to fill Scrimshaw's absence ahead of Sunday's Power clash.
