The AFL's Match Review Officer has charged three players from Friday's game between Hawthorn and Essendon, with Hawks defender Jack Scrimshaw handed a suspension for a striking charge.

Scrimshaw was involved in a second-quarter incident with Bombers backman Jordan Ridley that saw the former's left arm swing and make high contact with his opponent's head.

Ridley continued in the match but was eventually subbed out of the contest under concussion protocols.

The MRO has since deemed Scrimshaw's actions as a reportable offence, viewing the incident in question as careless conduct, high contact and severe impact.

Those gradings have led to a three-game suspension for Scrimshaw to accept, or challenge at the AFL Tribunal, with no early plea granted.

A three-match ban would see Scrimshaw next available to play in Round 6, missing matches against Carlton, GWS and Port Adelaide.

The Hawks are scheduled for a Round 4 bye, with Scrimshaw's scheduled return - should he face three matches on the sidelines - being a matchup against Geelong on Easter Monday.

Scrimshaw has also entered concussion protocols since Friday's win over Essendon, meaning he wouldn't be available for next week's contest against the Blues.

Teammate Sam Frost has also been charged with striking for a fourth-term incident involving Bomber Bne Hobbs. Frost can accept a fine of $1000 with an early plea.

Lastly, Essendon's Mason Redman can accept a fine of $1000 for making careless contact with an umpire in the second quarter.
