The AFL's Match Review Officer has referred Collingwood's Brayden Maynard to the Tribunal after charging the Magpies defender with rough conduct, while Melbourne's Jacob van Rooyen can accept a one-game ban.
The first-quarter incident between Maynard and Demons player Angus Brayshaw has the Pies star set to face the Tribunal next week, while Brayshaw suffered a concussion as a result of the collision and will miss his side's upcoming semi-final.
In conjunction with AFL Executive General Manager of Football, Laura Kane, the MRO viewed the incident as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact, resulting in the referral for a minimum three-game suspension.
Should Collingwood manage to reach the grand final, the suspension will mean Maynard is unavailable for selection until the second round of next season.
Maynard is expected to face the Tribunal on Tuesday and Collingwood will be able to plead their case that the All-Australian backman should be free to play in their home final in two weeks time.
Meanwhile, van Rooyen is set to miss his side's semi-final showing next week after being charged with rough conduct for a high hit on Collingwood's Dan McStay during the opening quarter of Thursday's final.
The incident in question gained the scrutiny of the MRO, who graded van Rooyen's actions as careless conduct, high contact and medium impact, resulting in a one-game suspension.
van Rooyen's right elbow is seen to make contact with the jaw of McStay, who underwent subsequent concussion tests before being cleared to return to play.
The Demons are able to challenge the charge at the AFL Tribunal, while a guilty plea would see the young forward ruled out of Melbourne's second final next week at the MCG.
No other charges were laid from Thursday's match.
