We are down to the final four with Collingwood, Brisbane, GWS and Carlton left to battle it out in the AFL Preliminary Finals this weekend. Who will book their spots in the 2023 AFL Grand Final?
The two semi-finals threw up major upsets as Carlton dumped out the Melbourne Demons and the GWS Giants caused a stir by downing Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval.
Will the Blues or the Giants be able to repeat their feats and cause two more upsets when they face the Magpies and Lions in the prelim finals? We rank the chances of the final four standing.
Favourites: Collingwood Magpies
There's no doubt that Collingwood ended the season in an inconsistent run of form, winning just two of their final five matches. However, they ultimately got across the line to be crowned minor premiers.
A 124-100 loss to the Brisbane Lions in their penultimate game threatened their spot on the top of the ladder, but a stunning 101-31 win over the Essendon Bombers in their final game sealed the minor flag in style.
It wasn't quite as pretty in the Qualifying Final against the Melbourne Demons, but the Pies got the job done 60-53 in a real arm wrestle.
The week off might just have done Craig McRae's side some good and they are favs with bookmaker Ladbrokes to win through to the Grand Final by defeating the Giants on Friday.
Second Favourites: Brisbane Lions
Brisbane Lions shone at the Gabbatoir in their Qualifying Final with Port Adelaide, dominating from start to finish in a 123-75 win two weeks ago.
They get another home final when hosting Carlton on Saturday and are fully expected to wrap up their spot at the MCG in the Grand Final.
It has been a brilliant season for the Lions, who recorded 17 wins in the home and away season to finish second on the ladder a win short of Collingwood.
Five wins in a row is expected to become six when they face the Blues at home and the only question mark remaining for the Lions is whether they can produce their best at the MCG on the final weekend of September.
Outsiders: GWS Giants and Carlton
Heading into last weekend's semi-finals, it wasn't expected that these two sides would be here in the prelims. But both the Giants and Blues pulled off significant upsets to keep their dreams alive. The Blues won a thriller with the Demons 73-71, while the Giants were impressive 93-70 winners over the Power in Adelaide.
Fifth-place Blues had beaten the Sydney Swans in the Elimination Finals a week earlier, but are the $8.00 outsiders of the remaining four. The Giants, who are shorter at $6.25 to win the Grand Final, finished the home and away season seventh on the ladder and have had to do things the hard way on the road away from Sydney.
GWS beat St Kilda by 24 points and followed that with a 23-point victory over Port Adelaide and are arguably, along with the Lions, the most in-form team of the four remaining.
