The AFL has handed GWS star Tom Green a "formal reprimand" for comments he made on a podcast in relation to the AFL's Tribunal and Match Review process.
Speaking on the In the Green Room Podcast, a club-ran podcast, Green stated that the system in place is "a disgrace" and is "ruining the game" on a deleted and re-uploaded episode.
The comments earned the ire of the AFL, who sent Green a 'please explain', with the midfielder having since apologised for his actions.
The AFL has found that Green breached AFL Rule 19.18(c) - using excessive, unfair, or unreasonable public comment and criticism.
"The AFL wishes to advise that GWS Giants player Tom Green has been given a formal reprimand for breaching AFL Rule 19.18(c) (Excessive, unfair, or unreasonable public comment and criticism) in relation to comments made on his “In the Green Room” podcast," an AFL statement read.
"During the podcast, in which the comments have since been removed, Green made a number of comments in relation to the AFL MRO and AFL Tribunal process and members.
"These included the following words (or similar) - that the Match Review Officer and/or the AFL Tribunal is “a disgrace” and is “ruining the game”.
"Green was sent a please explain and he unreservedly apologised for the comments and acknowledged poor judgment on his behalf, with his actions falling below the standards of conduct expected by the GWS Giants and the AFL.
"Green has been given a formal reprimand without further sanction."
Green's comments came in the wake of the AFL Tribunal upholding the Match Review Officer's three-game suspension against teammate Toby Bedford for rough conduct during Round 18.
Bedford's ban was eventually cleared at an AFL Appeal Board hearing, which took place after Green's comments.
