The AFL is reportedly investigating Geelong coach Chris Scott's new role with Morris Finance, who is a major sponsor of the Cats.

Scott was unveiled as Morris Finance's chief of leadership and performance last week, an announcement that raised the eyebrows of onlookers.

"We welcome this exciting announcement for Chris and Morris. It underscores the enduring relationship between Geelong Football Club and Morris, which has only deepened over the past 14 years" Geelong CEO Steve Hocking said of the announcement.

"Morris has been more than a sponsor; they have been an integral part of our club's journey, supporting our coaches and players. We look forward to many more years of collaboration and shared achievements."

According toย 7 News,ย the AFL is now seeking answers surrounding Scott's new ties with Morris Finance to learn of any implications the role could have on Geelong's soft cap.

Reporter Mitch Cleary revealed on Tuesday night that the recent revelations have garnered the attention of league headquarters.

"The AFL informedย 7 Newsย moments ago they are making inquiries into Scott's new role," Cleary said.

"Last week he was unveiled as chief of leadership and performance at Morris Finance. The league tracks all third-party deals but is making queries around the implications of this one on Geelong's soft cap.

"The league will ask should part or all of Scott's deal with Morris Finance be included in the club's soft cap, and is this role different to an arrangement he's had with Morris in previous years?"

The Cats have not commented on the recent report surrounding their coach and sponsor.

Curiosity into Geelong's and Scott's ties with Morris Finance come after external questions have been raised about the club's recent play for Western Bulldogs youngster Bailey Smith, who was traded to the Cats this off-season.

Smith has his own personal deal with fashion brand Cotton On, who is a major sponsor of Geelong also.

The 23-year-old requested a trade to Kardinia Park after six years with the Bulldogs.
