A new Amazon Prime series including a host of big names is set to be released in 2021 and will reveal behind the scenes footage from this year's dramatic season, perย The Herald Sun.
The series called Marking Their Mark aims to capture the highs and lows of 2020's AFL season while adjusting to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It will host a number of clubs in the series, but one glaring omission seems to be the most confusing.
Collingwood President Eddie McGuire's media company Jam TV produced the series and reached out to the Magpies, offering a place in the show to which the team declined.
Magpies captain Scott Pendlebury explained that they didn't want to give fans a "similar product" to their documentary for 2018 season: From The Inside Out.ย
โWe sort of felt as a club we only released a documentary about our club less than 12 months ago,โ Pendlebury told Sportsday.
โThe timing of our documentary was really close to this one, so youโll probably be seeing a very similar product.
โ2018 was the one was released, which was really well received. Iโm sure the next group of clubs that do it will be well received by their supporter base but also the other clubs.โ
However, there is still some star players fans will see 'behind the scenes', including West Coastโs Nic Naitanui, Carltonโs Eddie Betts, GWS captain Stephen Coniglio and Adelaideโs Rory Sloane.
We are also set to see Richmond's hierarchy in president Peggy OโNeal, chief executive Brendon Gale and coach Damien Hardwick and their strong fight for the 2020 premiership.
โIt was important for us to share key moments of what goes on behind the scenes within the AFL," said Jam TV's executive producer Luke Tunnecliffe.
โFrom locker room banter, coachโs sprays, on field collisions, management discussions and family life โ this series captures the inner sanctum of the AFL landscape like never before.โ
AFL General Manager Media and Digital, Sarah Wyse also believes this series will give supporters behind the scenes tickets to the world of the AFL, saying: โMaking Their Mark provides fans incredible behind the scenes access in a history-making season like no other."
Director Gil Marsden added: โA crisis like this year tested the strength and determination of every team in the league, whilst the teams continue to be delivering the best AFL for fans across the year.
โIt is an incredible honour to be trusted by our clubs to witness first-hand their sacrifices and challenges this season, which culminates on screen with Richmondโs epic Grand Final win.โ
Marking Their Mark will launch with seven hour-long episodes and is to be released on the 21st of March 2021.
