In the wake of their club's 29-point loss to the Crows on Saturday night, members of Carlton's cheer squad have publically claimed that star half-back Adam Saad was subjected to racial abuse from a patron at the Adelaide Oval.

As stated in a tweet posted at 10:22 pm (AEST) on Saturday night, an Adelaide fan is said to have labelled the 28-year-old a "terrorist".

While a fleet of police and Adelaide Oval employees were called to the scene, the Blues fan/s charged with leading the official Twitter account claimed that the female patron was not escorted out of the venue.

In response to the allegations, the Adelaide Football Club stated via their own account that they were "aware of these reports and are investigating".

In a corresponding statement issued by the West Lakes club on Sunday morning, it was also stressed that: "We do not tolerate and strongly condemn any form of discriminatory behaviour and it has no place in football or society. Adelaide Oval should be an inclusive and family-friendly environment."

Speaking to media on Sunday, Saad said the incident was an opportunity to educate those behind the comment.

"[I'm] always grateful to be in this position, can't complain," he said.

"Those things shouldn't be said but hopefully the AFL and the clubs will deal with it.

"It's disappointing, I guess we've just got to educate around making comments like that.

"At the end of the day I know who I am as a person and us as a Muslim community.

"As long as we can educate the person and move things forward."

The league released a statement of their own on Sunday afternoon, heavily condemning the alleged behaviour and sparking an investigation into the matter.

"The AFL is currently investigating alleged comments made by a spectator at AO last night. Football is a place of inclusion and belonging and there is no place for racist behaviour in our game," the statement reads.

"Nobody in our game or in the community deserves to be discriminated and vilified against due to their faith or race and there is simply no excuse for it."

From their vantage point behind the goals at the hill end of the picturesque stadium, Carlton's cheer squad was also the target of a litany of anti-Blues chants, which became audible on the broadcast as the Crows slammed on four final quarter goals.

The claims made by the travelling supporter base come less than 12 months after Adelaide veteran Taylor Walker was handed a six-game suspension for racially abusing former Saint Robbie Young during a SANFL fixture.

Former Crows and Blues champion Eddie Betts was also exposed to racial abuse at the venue after a female patron tossed a banana at the then Adelaide forward in August of 2016.

That same year Saad, then a Sun, made a stand alongside Bachar Houli, denouncing ex-Senator Fraser Anning's loaded anti-immigration comments.

Neither the Carlton Football Club nor Saad have made any comment on the matter as of 10:15 am on Sunday morning.
