The 2023 trade period is officially open, with the nine-day exchange window set to see a host of players swap colours ahead of a new season.

All 18 clubs are likely to take part in at least one deal over the week-and-a-half, while some clubs firm as key players in several separate deals.

Free agency opened last Friday and will run for one week, with a trio of deals already over the line.

Below is our 2023 AFL trade guide, covering each club's potential and confirmed ins and outs, trade rumours, draft picks and more.

Adelaide

The Crows quickly emerged as a potential buyer for Melbourne's Clayton Oliver, who is now set to remain in the red and blue. Adelaide are set to secure the services of two-time Frosty Miller Medal winner Chris Burgess from the Suns as they look to add depth to their attacking options. That could allow Elliott Himmelberg to make his way to GWS and link up with his brother in NSW, while another forward in Shane McAdam is looking to get to Melbourne. The Crows have confirmed they'll lose Tom Doedee to Brisbane via free agency, meaning unsigned backman James Borlase could earn a new deal with the loss of the intercept defender.

Tom Doedee, Shane McAdam, Elliott Himmelberg

Collingwood

Following the highs of their premiership-winning performance last month, Collingwood's fortune has since turned as far as trade plans. The premiers have lost out in pursuit of free agent pair Tom Doedee and Todd Goldstein, while contracted midfielder Taylor Adams has requested a trade to Sydney. The Magpies are likely seeking a second-round selection from the Swans given they view Adams as a required player, with Sydney currently holding Picks 23 and 31. The Magpies have also been linked to Port Adelaide wingman Xavier Duursma.

Essendon

The Bombers will be one of the busier clubs over the next nine days, with a trio of free agents potentially heading to Tullamarine from rivalling Victorian clubs. North Melbourne pair Todd Goldstein and Ben McKay are looking to make the move to Essendon, while St Kilda restricted free agent Jade Gresham is also tipped to become a Bomber. A deal for Gresham could be the first part of a three-stage deal with the Saints that would see Dylan Shiel head the other way in a subsequent trade agreement. The Bombers are also set to farewell Brandon Zerk-Thatcher to Port Adelaide and could ask for Power wingman Xavier Duursma in return. Second-year flanker Massimo D'Ambrosio is seeking a move to Hawthorn and will likely pocket the Bombers a third or fourth-round pick.

The Dockers officially lost defender Joel Hamling to Sydney over the weekend, with no compensation coming Fremantle's way despite the WA club tabling a deal to the 30-year-old. Small forward/wingman Liam Henry is also set for the east coast via a move to St Kilda. The Cats' opening selection of Pick 7 is up for grabs for the right price, which will fetch strong interest from a number of potential suitors. The Cats are set to move defender Esava Ratugolea to Port Adelaide but will be firm in their negotiations. Forward pair Mabior Chol and Chris Burgess are looking to move to Hawthorn and Adelaide respectively, while midfielder Elijah Hollands could land at Carlton. Adelaide forward Elliott Himelberg could switch SA for NSW and link up with his brother Harry to help bolster Adam Kingsley's forward stocks. Their arrivals will come as forward pair Jacob Koschitzke and Tyler Brockman seek moves to Richmond and West Coast respectively. The Demons have confirmed midfielder Clayton Oliver will remain at the club for the foreseeable future after speculation surrounded the gun onballer last week. Melbourne have already lost James Jordon to Sydney via free agency, with ruckman Brodie Grundy potentially joining him through the trade period. Midfielder James Harmes is assessing his options and could land at the Western Bulldogs. Adelaide forward Shane McAdam and Brisbane tall Tom Fullarton have both requested moves to Melbourne.

North Melbourne

The Roos will lose Todd Goldstein and Ben McKay to Essendon via free agency, with the latter potentially seeing North Melbourne secure Pick 3 as compensation. The Kangaroos are set to add some run to their squad through moves for Sydney onballer Dylan Stephens and Carlton's Zac Fisher. Richmond free agent Bigo Nyuon has reportedly met with the club and could be a cheap pickup. The Roos are among the clubs that could make a move for Pick 1, and they have a draft hand that will trump any other potential buyer.

The Power are looking to bring in four players through the trade period, with two key defenders and two ruckmen on their radar. Geelong's Esava Ratugolea and Essendon's Brandon Zerk-Thatcher are looking to land at Alberton, as is Western Bulldogs tall Jordon Sweet. Contracted Tigers ruckman Ivan Soldo has also been linked to Port Adelaide, but there'll be some pull from Richmond to keep him at Punt Road. Winger Xavier Duursma has emerged as a target for Victorian clubs given the Power are needing to bolster their draft hand to attain their trade targets, while off-contract forward Orazio Fantasia has reportedly met with GWS and could make the switch to his third club.

The Swans have emerged as a likely landing spot for Collingwood's Taylor Adams following his surprised request to fly the nest and head north, while his old teammate and Demons ruckman Brodie Grundy is also expected to become a Swan. West Coast are also well-placed to land Hawthorn small forward Tyler Brockman.
