Melbourne is reportedly keeping tabs on veteran Hawk Jack Gunston's situation.

According to Fox Footy's Tom Morris, the Demons may be interested in acquiring the 2020 Peter Crimmins Medallist.

The report states that while there was no discussion of a trade at Gunston's exit meeting, Hawthorn may be open to allowing an older player to depart in return for draft capital.

Melbourne's forward-line already accommodates the likes of Tom McDonald, Bayley Fritsch, Ben Brown and Luke Jackson, but by fare-welling off-contract Sam Weideman and rookie-listed Majak Daw, the Demons could make room for the three-time premiership Hawk.

The 29-year-old managed just one game this season after battling back issues, but is just a year removed from one of his best seasons -- after which he garnered trade interest from Collingwood -- and is contracted through 2022.

It would appear that the Hawks aren't pushing the idea of a Gunston trade this off-season, but the three-time leading goal-kicker and All-Australian may be looking for a career revitalisation elsewhere after the departure of long-time senior coach Alastair Clarkson.

Gunston is a massive supporter of Clarkson and was reportedly unhappy with the way his premiership coach was treated on his way out of the Hawks.

Clubs are keeping an eye on the Gunston situation but are worried about the condition his back is in off the back of an operation.
