Demons ruckman Braydon Preuss has nominated GWS as his new home for 2021, according to AFL Media's Callum Twomey.
Hawthorn also reportedly joined the race late to secure him, but the big man has opted for a move to Western Sydney.
The Giants will now need to trade to acquire Preuss, who is contracted until the end of 2022.
Preuss will join his third AFL club, originally moving from North Melbourne to Melbourne at the end of 2017 for more senior opportunities in a switch that always seemed odd given the Demons are led by one of the game's dominant ruckman in Max Gawn.
Already playing behind Gawn, Preuss slipped to being the Demons’ third-choice ruckman after the club drafted Luke Jackson with Pick 2.
The 25-year old has played 10 games over the last two seasons, including just three senior appearances in 2020.
Preuss is primed to take over the number one ruck duties at GWS, with Sam Jacobs announcing his retirement and Shane Mumford to serve as a backup.
