Out-of-favour Melbourne forward Sam Weideman will remain with the Demons past 2021.

The 24-year-old has signed a new two-year deal with Melbourne despite strong interest from rivals.

Two more years will see Weideman remain with the club until the end of the 2023 season, taking him to free agency.

The Demons tall expressed his delight to have re-signed.

โ€œIโ€™m rapt to be able to stay at the club and to hopefully be a part of a successful future is huge for me,โ€ Weideman told Melbourne Media.

โ€œThe last two weeks have been some of the more enjoyable Iโ€™ve had in footy and to be able to be part of a grand final build up has been a great experience.

โ€œI love the boys, I love the club and itโ€™s a great place to be.โ€

The speculation surrounding his future and his place on the outer of Simon Goodwin's desired 22-man side, Weideman is now poised to ink an extension.

The Magpies, Kangaroos and Suns have all been closely linked to the spearhead forward, who will likely re-sign in the coming week.

Young Tigers duo Callum Coleman-Jones and Mabior Chol are set to join North Melbourne and Gold Coast respectively this off-season, filling the voids both clubs were seeking to plug in their key-forward ranks.

Collingwood football boss Graham Wright flagged a level of interest in Weideman's services, however the Magpies are set for a quieter trade period than most.

Weideman has played 46 games for the Demons since making his debut in 2016, booting 49 goals in the red and blue.

The tall target has been limited to just the five appearances this season, his lowest campaign tally since his rookie year.

Strong seasons from Tom McDonald, Bayley Fritsch and recruit Ben Brown have kept Weideman's opportunities limited in 2021.
