Outcast Saint Luke Dunstan is reportedly poised to sign a two-year deal with premiers Melbourne.

The 26-year-old was not offered a new deal by St Kilda for the 2022 season, prompting interest from the Bombers and Suns following a strong campaign in the red, black and white.

Dunstan polled 11 Brownlow votes from his 12 appearances for the year, coming second at the Saints only to superstar midfielder Jack Steele in the vote count.

Despite the promising campaign, the Saints opted not to extend their partnership with the 116-gamer past this season.

Now, according to 7 News reporter Tom Browne, Dunstan could land at the Demons as early as Wednesday.

It is understood that Dunstan has met with Melbourne in hope of landing an AFL lifeline, with the Demons looking to further strengthen their midfield core.

The Dees bid farewell to club great Nathan Jones (retired) and Aaron Vandenberg (seeking opportunities elsewhere) in the days following their drought-breaking flag win, with the premiership victors also losing out in their chase for departing Docker Adam Cerra.

Dunstan would add great depth to the Demons' midfield, which boasts the ranks of Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver, Jack Viney and Angus Brayshaw.

St Kilda are yet to officially delist Dunstan, which could mean the Saints acquire compensation should his deal with the Demons hold significant weight.
