George Hewett is still yet to sign on for a deal beyond 2021 and negotiations haven't progressed at all in recent times according to Swans CEO Tom Harley.

The 25-year-old South Australian is an integral part of the Sydney setup and will become a restricted free agent in trade period 2021 should he not sign on before then.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Harley has revealed that talks between Hewett and the club haven't been productive so far.

“He hasn’t signed and he hasn’t committed to the Swans and the Swans (haven't committed) to George to be honest beyond this year," Harley said to SEN on Tuesday.

“As far as anything being done, that would be news to me.

“We’ve got a list that is a good one, particularly with players 25-26 and under, but like all things, and particularly with free agency you have to respect that there’s a process that plays out."

Hewett has appeared on 119 occasions for Sydney since his 2016 debut, and can play a number of positions through the middle and down back.

There has been talk of the 25-year-old being a name on Carlton's wish-list during this year's trade period, however the uncertain future of the Blues coaching role means things could change.

The Swans utility has put up some great numbers in 2021, averaging 2.9 tackles, 6.7 contested possessions and 2.3 stoppage clearances per game - all elite numbers for a man of his position.

There has been no question Hewett has been a vital cog in John Longmire's system this year, helping the Swans to their first finals appearance since 2018.

Hewett will be hoping that he and his side can make a dent in September starting this Saturday against cross-town rivals GWS in the first elimination final.
