Matthew Lloyd is of the belief that a move to the Gold Coast would benefit both the fledgling Suns and underutilized Bulldog Mitch Wallis.
The three-time Coleman Medalist stated that the Pups' vice-captain would serve Stuart Dew's list across multiple areas and cited his ability to aid the development of younger Bulldogs as a hallmark of his quality.
“I know they [Gold Coast] get spoken about a lot in this space … I reckon he (Wallis) would be amazing for them in terms of the character he brings,” Lloyd told AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday.
“Mitch has been unbelievable for him [Cody Weightman] in terms of being the most welcoming person in that regard.
“He’s the type of guy that you would say, ‘come and play with us for a couple of years’ and then could you keep him on for good?”
A move north of the Murray River could well be an easy shift given Wallis' unrestricted free-agent status.
Should a trade eventuate, the curly haired midfielder-come-forward would offer the Carrara club another avenue to goal given he was the Dogs' leading goalscorer in 2020 with 25 majors.
Having made just six-appearances for Luke Beveridge's side this season, Wallis could well miss out on another premiership medallion after a sickening leg injury during the 2016 season cost him a place in Bulldogs' immortality.
Taking this lack of September success into account, Lloyd claimed that if the father-son selection was to seek a move from the Kennel, then it would likely be to another side in contention for a premiership.
However, the former Don reiterated his stance that the Suns were still crying out for players of Wallis' calibre.
“Last year he was super smart the way he used his body and just didn’t miss [in front of goal],” Lloyd said.
“He’s also an unbelievable person so you’re bringing in a high-end character. He was vice-captain this year for a reason, but fell out at the Western Bulldogs.
“One thing you’re getting is an unbelievable person into your football club.
“He’s potentially going to miss out on two premierships, so he would probably love to go to a top-end side, but I’m sure he would be brilliant for a young group as well.”
Wallis has laced the boots on 157 occasions for the Western Oval side after following in the footsteps of his father and former Footscray skipper, Steve Wallis.
The AFL trade period is set to commence on October 4.
