Essendon have confirmed โ€œgenuine interestโ€ in Suns big man Peter Wright, according to The Age.

Wright has played 66 AFL games in five years and is contracted with the Suns until the end of 2022.

Following the of departures of key position players Joe Daniher (Brisbane Lions), Shaun McKernan (delisted) Tom Bellchambers (retired), the Bombers are now on the hunt to find a replacement.

The Bombers are assessing their options but yet to make a serious play for Wright.

Ideally, the Bombers would like the Suns to absorb some of the 24-year-oldโ€™s salary and prefer Wright to renegotiate terms, should a deal be offered as per the report.

Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro confirmed to AFL Trade Radio they are wanting to find a forward replacement.

โ€œItโ€™s certainly an area that weโ€™d like to bolster โ€ฆ and itโ€™s something that we hope to address in this in this trade period. In the background weโ€™re trying to get a tall forward.โ€ย Dodoro said

Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd agrees it is the right move for the club to make a move on Wright.

โ€œI think Peter Wright will be on the Essendon Football Clubโ€™s list next year,โ€ Lloyd toldย AFL Trade Radio.

โ€œ(The Bombers) shouldnโ€™t have to give up much for him.โ€
