Collingwood wingman Tom Phillips is firming to to land at Hawthorn, reports AFL journalist Tom Browne.
The Magpies are managing a tight salary cup and have reportedly put the gun runner on the trade table to help ease their situation.
Speaking on Triple M's The Hot Breakfast, Browne reports that Phillips, who is contracted for another season, is edging towards a deal with the Hawks.
"I think a deal that's going to be done in the next few days on my radar. Some Hawthorn spies overnight telling me that Tom Phillips from Collingwood, I think is pretty close to a deal with the Hawks," Browne said.
"Phillips is one of the players I think Collingwood was not fixed on offloading, but interested in offloading. I think you might find he'll become a Hawk very soon so keep an eye on that one."
Phillips was one of Collingwood’s best players in their 2018 grand final season, averaging 25.5 disposals and and 5.7 marks per game while booting 15 goals.
His form dipped slightly in 2019, going at 23.8 disposals, 5.3 marks and booting 12 goals. He finished sixth and seventh respectively in both of those years.
The wingman fell out of favour slightly this season, getting pushed out to a half forward flank following the emergence of Josh Daicos. Phillips averaged 16.3 disposals and 3.1 marks in 2020, albeit in reduced quarters.
He has played 89 AFL games for the Magpies.
The AFL trade period runs until November 12.
