Western Bulldogs defender Lewis Young is attracting interest from a number of clubs who are keen to add another defender into their line-ups heading into next season, per The Herald Sun.

The 22-year old has only managed five games in 2021 for the Bulldogs, and has played only 20 games in five years since being taken with pick 49 in the 2016 AFL Draft.

Young will likely have to move on to another club in order to seek more opportunities at AFL level.

With the Bulldogs in premiership contention, they boast a strong and deep lineup which limits opportunities for their young players coming through who are talented enough to play at AFL level.

Fellow Bulldogs teammates Patrick Lipinski and Ed Richards join Young in a similar situation.

Young's position in Luke Beveridge's side is further limited by Josh Schache's move from the forward line down back as a key defender in recent weeks, which has proven to be a success.

The Dogs will also look to target father-son prospect Sam Darcy in the upcoming draft, who could start his career as a key defender given their talents up forward with the likes of Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Aaron Naughton and Josh Bruce.

Darcy played much of his junior career down back and also in the ruck, and his arrival could create a dilemma for Young's opportunities in the side.

The 197cm defender has shown glimpses of brilliance in his limited game time in 2021, highlighted by a 17-disposal, five-mark and 13-intercept possession game against Brisbane in Round 4.
