Fremantle has unsuccessfully overturned the one-game ban against Nat Fyfe after the Tribunal upheld the sanction, meaning he will be unavailable for the clash against Essendon on Sunday.
Fyfe was offered a one-match suspension from the Match Review Officer (MRO) for his strike on West Coast midfielder Jai Culley during Saturday's Western Derby at Optus Stadium.
The MRO graded the incident as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, constituting a one-week layoff.
The officiating umpire awarded a free-kick to the Eagles midfielder.
A medical report confirmed no immediate treatment of Culley nor was there any follow-up after the incident.
The Dockers argued the case on two counts:
Fyfe did not give any evidence during the hearing.
AFL counsel Andrew Woods argues that: "Simply looking at the vision, it's what anyone would understand to be a strike."
Fremantle (Seamus Rafferty) counter-argued that it isn't clear where contact is made on Culley and with what, but admitted that the vision shows Fyfe's hand makes contact with the outside of the Eagles youngster's left arm.
The Dockers say Fyfe pushing someone who is coming at him with speed is a "perfectly legitimate football action".
"Fyfe's arm never goes above his own chest height, towards a person who is almost exactly the same height."
"The combination of force (from both players), combined with the absence of any treatment ... is indicative of what force was used by Fyfe during the course of a legitimate football act."
The Tribunal found that Fyfe intended to strike Culley and that his force was greater than negligible impact.
"We are satisfied it should be graded as low impact.
"Vision shows it struck Culley with more than negligible force.
"This would have been the case even without Culley's momentum towards Fyfe.
"The arm was swung with speed and the impact was not inconsiderable.
"Culley was not injured, but he was clearly hurt, and the potential for injury was not insignificant."
Fyfe is unavailable to play in Round 21 against the Bombers at the MCG on Sunday.
