Reigning All-Australian defender Dan Houston is reportedly on watch as a potential trade target for rival clubs, with strong ties to Victoria.
The rebounding Port Adelaide back hails from the Oakleigh Chargers but has spent all of his eight year professional career with the Power in South Australia, enjoying a rise to AFL stardom in recent seasons.
AFL.com reporter Cal Twomey believes Victorian clubs are keeping a close eye on the situation, with the Melbourne Demons even being leaked as a potential suitor.
In what could be another All-Australian campaign in 2024, Houston is averaging more than 23 disposals and and five marks a game, having already established himself as one of the premier intercepting rebounders in the competition, with a mighty right leg capable of a 60 metre roost.
He is highly regarded at Port Adelaide, earning hero status with an all-time goal after the siren to defeat Essendon en route to one of the great winning streaks in the club's history last season.
He has easily been the most consistent backman at the club this season and would add a dynamic weapon to any club that could lure him from the Power.
But with Port Adelaide and coach Ken Hinkley permanently under the microscope and under significant pressure this season, the Victorian may be desiring a change of scenery.
Of all Victorian clubs, he would arguably make the biggest impact at Collingwood, St Kilda, Richmond or the Bulldogs, each of whom would crave added intercepting and kicking ability on their lists next season and for the foreseeable future, particularly with the Saints preparing to potentially lose Josh Battle to the Hawks.
Further information and speculation is sure to be released in the coming days or weeks as the 2024 season reaches it's climax.
