Essendon have been dealt another blow as they attempt to kickstart their season, with Andy McGrath reportedly suffering an injury at training over the weekend.

Per reports from the Herald Sun, McGrath tweaked his groin and pulled up sore during match simulation over Essendon's bye weekend.

The 24-year-old is reportedly in doubt to line up for Essendon's Friday night clash against Carlton, the first in a run of three crucial prime-time games for the Bombers.

McGrath's absence would be a big blow for the Bombers, with the Rising Star Award winner averaging 22.2 disposals, 3.3 clearances and 2.8 tackles per game this season. The midfield gun is yet to miss a game in 2022.

Should the tweak be significant enough to sideline the number one draft pick, McGrath would join Jake Stringer (hamstring), Will Snelling (calf) and Kyle Langford (hamstring), among others, currently sitting on the Bombers' injury list.

However, that trio may be available for Friday night's clash should they get through training, while Mason Redman will be eligible to return after serving his one-match suspension for striking.

Currently sitting in 16th position with a 2-9 win-loss record, the Bombers are desperate for a win under Friday night lights as the heat on the club continues to rise.

Essendon have announced a review into the coaching and recruitment departments at the club, but have made guarantees that coach Ben Rutten and list boss Adrian Dodoro will remain in their roles.

The Bombers' Round 13 Friday night clash is the first of three in a row, facing St Kilda in Round 14 at Marvel Stadium, before heading west to face the current bottom of the table Eagles in Round 15.
