Sydney gun Isaac Heeney has taken back the lead in our 2024 Finals MVP race.

Heeney has now polled 38 of a possible 40 votes in September to carry an eight-vote lead over Hawk Jai Newcombe, who is now out of the running.

The star Swan was recognised as best-afield against Port Adelaide by three of our four judges, with teammate Chad Warner earning the other BOG nod.

Warner polled 16 votes in the 36-point victory, which was still the second most for the weekend, while a third Swans midfielder in Errol Gulden almost added double digits to their tally.

Trio Nick Blakey, Joel Amartey and James Rowbottom all polled from Friday's win as well.

Port Adelaide defender Aliir Aliir was the sole Port Adelaide player to earn votes in the heavy loss, tallying five votes while being recognised by three of our four judges.

The votes were shared evenly across Saturday's game, with Lion Cameron Rayner's 13 votes the most for the match.

Brisbane midfielder Hugh McCluggage was the next highest with 10 votes, while it was Geelong's Gryan Miers who edged out Lachie Neale by one vote with eight.

Dayne Zorko, Ryan Lester and Callum Ah Chee all polled in the win over Geelong, while Zach Guthrie, Gryan Miers and Tom Stewart featured in the votes for the Cats in the 10-point loss.

Heeney holds a 10-vote lead over the next best set to feature in the grand final, with McCluggage on 28 votes, while Zorko and youngster Will Ashcroft are on 25 each. Warner is the next highest Swan with 20 votes in our Finals MVP count.

With up to 40 votes on offer for any player in the grand final, the race for this year's Finals MVP honour is wide open.

Our finals MVP follows the same format of voting as the home and away season. However, voting on the grand final will be worth double.
