The Sydney Swans have reportedly joined the now three-team race to acquire the services of Melbourne Demons midfielder James Jordon.

Jordon has played in 13 games so far in 2023 and whilst his numbers are down in comparison to the last two seasons, Sydney amongst others are hoping that the down year might help in pursuing Jordon, knowing they may not have to fight as much given his lack of opportunities.

The 22-year-old is originally from Victoria and has also drummed up interest from cross-town rivals Essendon and up north from the Gold Coast Suns. Whether Jordon wants to remain in his home state or make the move north, that decision has not been made yet.

According to a report by The Age, Sydney has also shared their interest in the Demon as the Swans battle their own issue in the midfield, which has become a key factor in Sydney potentially missing finals after making the Grand Final last season.

Jordon was drafted by Melbourne at pick 33 in the 2018 draft and has since played in 60 games. He also played in every game in 2021, becoming part of the premiership team that defeated the Western Bulldogs and also earnt a rising star nomination in round eight of that same season.

Jordon currently averages 12.9 disposals and one clearance per game, with his numbers significantly depreciating due to taking on the tactical sub role for most of 2023.

He has also became a helping hand to his fellow midfielders with a strong ability to force the opponent into making mistakes with 11.2 pressure acts per game, freeing up Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca, and Jack Viney to all play to their style.

After the Demons traded for Lachie Hunter last year, Jordan has been limited in his opportunities to start or even play in the senior's side.

Jordon's contract is set to expire at the end of 2023 and the midfielder is eligible for free agency given he was delisted and re-signed at the end of 2020.

The Demons have re-signed ten players so far, with eight other players coming off contract at the end of 2023.
