Gold Coast star forward Ben King says the Suns will not be complacent in their preparation for Richmond this weekend, as the club gears up for their third clash with Damien Hardwick's former side since he made the move to the Sunshine State.
King, who plays his 100th game on Saturday, said the club is buoyed by their current undefeated record, but will not relent any intensity against favoured-to-be-wooden-spooners Richmond.
The Suns have been prolific against lesser sides so far this season, dismantling the winless Eagles and Demons in Rounds 1 and 2 as well as overcoming three-quarters of competitiveness from North Melbourne to establish a 52-point margin at full-time in Gather Round.
King said the Suns' ability to push through the gritty moments is what will hold them in good stead this season.
"When you look at it from a game perspective, we felt there were patches on the weekend where they (North Melbourne) were dominant, and they had the run of play, so our ability to bounce back and finish that game off was really good," King said.
Gold Coast now take on the Tigers in Round 6, a team that has been sneakily competitive in multiple games this season. Despite their solid performances, Richmond has only recorded one win, but King said the Suns won't discard the Tigers as a genuine opponent.
"No, we're not really buying into that at all," King said.
"I think any team can beat anyone at the moment, and they showed that when they've got momentum and they're up and about, they were really strong against Carlton and beat them, so we certainly won't be taking them lightly.
"We know it'll take a four-quarter effort from everyone to beat to beat Richmond. So that's the plan."
The Suns take on Richmond at Marvel Stadium where they recorded their sole away victory in 2024, although they have put that hoodoo behind them so far this season.
The Tigers haven't won at Marvel Stadium since Round 9, 2021, with their latest loss being against St Kilda in Round 3.
