Essendon defender Tayte Pears will not continue his career at the Bombers, after informing the the club he wishes to pursue a career in fire fighting.
Pears said the decision to give the game away was a difficult one, however, a career in the fire brigade had always been an ambition of the 26-year-old's.
“The challenges of the last few years have inhibited my ability to undertake the demands of AFL football and I feel it is the right time for me to move on with the next stage of life in the best interests of my future,” Pears said.
“I really appreciate all the support I have received from my team mates, the members and supporters and wish everyone at Essendon all the best for the future.”
Pears played 70 games for the Bombers between 2008 and 2015.
