Controversial Fremantle star Harley Bennell will return to the club as Tuesday marks the end of his club-imposed suspension.

Bennell has been training with WAFL club Peel over the last eight weeks after being involved in a Perth nightclub scuffle, with coach Ross Lyon confirming Bennell had hit all of the key performance indicators required to allow him to return to the senior group.

Despite suffering a minor calf tear while away from the club, Lyon believes the 25-year-old will be ready to return to the demands of AFL football.

"I think he's hit all indicators," Lyon told Channel Nine.

"I think he had a slight hiccup with his calf.

"With (football manager) Chris Bond and the leaders, he'll come in tomorrow and we'll have the discussion."

Bennell is likely to make his return to football via Peel Thunder's pre-season clashes either this weekend or next after appearing in just two senior games of football in 2017.

The young talent has played more than 15 senior games in a season just once (2012) in his career, with injuries and off-field drama taking away from his capabilities on the field.
