Northern Territory team Palmerston Magpies have reportedly obtained the services of Eddie Betts for the upcoming season.

While the Top End outfit had been linked with the former Carlton and Adelaide great over the course of the last month, issues surrounding whether the 34-year-old would be required to quarantine after crossing the border had halted a final agreement being made.

However, according to a tweet released by 7AFL on Wednesday afternoon, an offical deal between the two parties has reportedly been struck.

The ability for the 350-gamer to ply his trade for the club located outside of Darwin came about due to Betts' longstanding relationship with former Palmerston great and dual Geelong premiership player, Mathew Stokes.

Betts' shift up north will also see him offer mentoring to Territorians alongside Stokes, per a report from Guy McLean of NITV News.

The move to return to the playing field comes just a fortnight after taking up a developmental coaching role under Chris Scott at Geelong and less than two-months after calling time on his sublime AFL career that commenced in 2025

Given football seasons in the Northern Territory are scheduled for the summer months, it remains to be seen how much, if any, of the Cats' pre-season period Betts misses.

While Palmerston has not won a premiership across the past pair of decades, the injection of one of the game's greatest ever small forwards could be just the spark the club needs to finally break their drought.

Betts retired from AFL football earlier this year following a 17-season career that saw him slot 640 goals.
