Blues and Suns receive exclusive access to mature players

Following the AFL's rejection of a priority pick for Carlton and Gold Coast, the AFL has granted access to mature aged players from across the country to the struggling franchises.

Under this arrangement, the Blues will be able to pre-list two players who have previously nominated for the draft, or have formerly played at other AFL clubs with the intention of either retaining them to their lists or on-trading them once the draft window opens.

The Suns will be able to pre-list three players with the same restrictions.

The proposal is intended to increase mature aged players to join the youthful clubs, or provide extra draft picks if these players are pre-listed and traded.

This period will happen prior to the AFL Trade Period which begins Monday, October 8, and is seen as a more positive alternative to altering the draft itself with specialised priority picks.

Players these clubs may consider include VFL listed players Alex Woodward, Michael Collins or Sam Darcy.
