Carlton has announced co-captains for the 2020 AFLW season, with Katie Loynes and Kerryn Harrington named as the club's leaders.

Alison Downie, Sarah Hosking and Nicola Stevens will round out the five-woman leadership group.

Loynes and Harrington will be the first co-captains in the club's history.

The two Blues stars both spoke about what the decision meant to them.

โ€œI have been a Carlton supporter all my life and to now captain this club is just surreal. Iโ€™m still getting my head around the prestigious honour of being a captain of the Carlton Football Club,โ€ Harrington told the club's website.

โ€œThis group is really special to me and itโ€™s a privilege to be voted in by my peers. I canโ€™t wait to lead the girls out with 'Loynesy' against Richmond in Round 1: bring it on.โ€

โ€œThis Club has been my home since day one โ€” itโ€™s amazing to think back to my first training session in 2016 and the journey that has led me to this moment,โ€ Loynes added.

โ€œThis opportunity is incredible and doing this alongside my great friend โ€˜Kezโ€™ makes it even more special.

โ€œWe have a really exciting group which took great strides forward in 2019 and we are ready to hit the ground running in season 2020.โ€
